Pegasus Reaches Global Markets
Pegasus Manufacturing’s parts and assemblies had long been internal components of exported jet engines, power turbines and other commodities. But they were rarely sold directly to foreign customers. Then the Middletown, CT, company, after subjecting itself to a rigorous training and examination process, obtained global quality certifications.
Now, thanks largely to its reach into global markets, Pegasus Manufacturing is experiencing record sales growth and employs a workforce of more than 125. This year it was chosen by the SBA as the Connecticut Exporter of the Year.
When Todd DiPentima and his father Vincent acquired it in 1989, Pegasus was a “job shop” on the verge of liquidation and staffed by only six people. Neither DiPentimas had worked in contract manufacturing, but for the next few years they managed the firm with a new emphasis on excellence in production and opportunities to expand their range of services and their base of customers.
In 1998 Pegasus purchased Triumph Manufacturing of East Hartford, a precision machining business that primarily serviced Electric Boat, Pratt & Whitney and government machining work. The company also now provides design, engineering and inspection services.
Pegasus Manufacturing’s rise over the past fifteen years has lived up to the firm’s mythological name. But as it has grown, it has shown dedication to the local community and worked in support of manufacturers throughout the state.
